Neurotoxins

  • The neurotoxin used in Tox treatments is called botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and is specifically used in cosmetic procedures to temporarily relax and paralyze targeted muscles in the face. By doing so, it reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, providing a smoother and more youthful facial appearance. This temporary muscle paralysis is a key factor in achieving the desired cosmetic effects of Tox treatments.

  • Botulinum toxin is used for cosmetic purposes, works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to the muscles where it is injected. Here's how it works:

    Nerve-Muscle Communication:

When your brain wants a muscle to contract, it sends a signal down a nerve to the muscle. At the neuromuscular junction (the point where the nerve and muscle meet), a chemical messenger called acetylcholine is released.

    Blocking Acetylcholine:

Tox interferes with this process by blocking the release of acetylcholine from nerve cells. It does this by preventing the vesicles in the nerve endings from fusing with the cell membrane and releasing acetylcholine into the synaptic cleft (the gap between the nerve and the muscle).

    Muscle Relaxation:

Without acetylcholine, the muscle does not receive the signal to contract. As a result, the muscle temporarily relaxes and becomes less active. This relaxation of the muscle reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines that are caused or exacerbated by muscle contractions, such as crow's feet or frown lines.

    Gradual Return of Muscle Activity:

Over time, typically in a few months, the effects of Tox wear off as the nerve endings recover their ability to release acetylcholine. This leads to a gradual return of muscle function and facial expressions.

Tox treatments are precise and targeted, allowing for the reduction of specific wrinkles while preserving natural facial movements in other areas. The temporary nature of Botox makes it a popular choice for individuals seeking non-invasive cosmetic enhancements.

  • When considering a Tox treatment, here's what you can generally expect:

Consultation: You'll start with a consultation and we will assess your concerns and discuss your goals.

Treatment Session: On the day of the treatment, you will be seated in a comfortable chair or examination table. We will clean the area to be treated and may apply a topical anesthetic to minimize any discomfort.

Tox Injections: Tox is administered through a series of small injections using a fine needle. The number of injections and their precise locations depend on the treatment area and your specific goals.

Minimal Discomfort: Most people find Tox injections to be relatively painless, describing them as a mild pinch or discomfort. The procedure is quick, typically taking about 15-30 minutes.

No Downtime: You can usually resume your regular activities immediately after the treatment. Some redness or minor swelling at the injection sites is common but usually subsides within a few hours to a day.

Results: It may take a few days to start noticing the effects of Tox, and the full results often become apparent within 7 to 14 days. You will see a reduction in wrinkles and fine lines in the treated area, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Duration: The effects of Tox are temporary, lasting on average 3-4 months. As the muscle activity gradually returns, you may notice the reappearance of wrinkles and lines.

Maintenance: To maintain the results, you'll need to schedule follow-up treatments as recommended by your healthcare provider. Over time, some people find that with regular treatments, the effects can last longer.

Natural Look: Tox is known for providing natural-looking results that allow you to maintain your facial expressions. You should still be able to smile, frown, and make other normal facial movements.

Possible Side Effects: While uncommon, potential side effects may include temporary bruising, headaches, or eyelid drooping. Serious side effects are rare when administered by a qualified professional.
